The Midi Canal is an 18th century engineering marvel designed to connect the Mediterranean to the Atlantic through the "Midi" (south) of France. A UNESCO World Heritage site that is still functioning today. We'll motor along plane-tree lined rivers, canals and locks through the Languedoc, home to great wines and charming medieval and "Plus Beaux"-rated (most beautiful) villages.
Because the Canal is lined with towpaths-- now bikepaths-- we'll carry bicycles aboard and be able to visit villages by bicycle anyplace we tie up. Cruising, cycling, villages, French culture and wine; what more do you need? Hopefully you enjoy two or three of these, but you could just enjoy cruising through the beautiful countryside of France at the start of fall! By going then, we'll avoid the heat and crowds of summer, and save on airfare, too!
